River Seven was founded by lead singer and guitarist, Michael Bongertman. A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Michael was influenced at an early age by legendary artists such as The Beatles, Steve Miller, The Eagles, Van Halen, Supertramp, Elvis, Fleetwood Mack and Peter Gabriel. By the time he was 7 years old, Michael was playing the guitar and drums with innate talent and remarkable passion that was undeniable and impossible to go unnoticed. In second grade, when his teacher polled the classroom and asked each student what they wanted to be when they “grew up”, Michael always answered by saying “a musician”. His determination at such a young age made it clear that this ingénue was indeed destined for a career in music.
Michael Bongertman studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music as well as attended music programs at Humber College and Mohawk College. Soon after school, Michael began touring extensively throughout Canada and the U.S. as a full-time musician. Working with The Booking House, one of Toronto’s largest booking agencies, Michael was able to showcase his talents by sharing the stage as the opening act for legendary artists such as the Dixie Chicks, April Wine, Randy Bachman, Chubby Checker and Diamond Rio (to name a few). After a successful run of touring in North America, Michael Bongertman went on to record and play with rock band Super Vox, managed and produced by famed Lighthouse drummer and producer, Skip Prokop.
In 2010, Michael began his current project, pop-rock band River Seven, where he is the lead singer and guitar player and produced by Terry Brown (Rush, Cutting Crew, Blue Rodeo). River Seven marries classic rock ‘n’ roll influences with effervescent pop melodies to conceive a sound that is The Script meets Maroon 5 accentuated with John Mayer-esque vocals.
River Seven’s self-titled debut full length album will be released on February 21, 2012.
